Want to help Yuma-area students succeed at Dev Day Yuma?  Sign up below to be a Dev Day Yuma mentor.  Being a Dev Day Yuma mentor provides you with an opportunity to help student participants develop a software app at one of our one-day coding events.  You don't need to have coding experience to be a mentor; you just need a desire to help Yuma-area high school students discover 21st-century technology.

Dev Day Yuma mentors are expected to complete a training and exercise development program prior to the coding event.  The training program requires about one hour per week over a six week period.

If you're a teacher, a parent of a Dev Day Yuma participant, or a software professional - and you can make the commitment - we'd very much like to hear from you.  Thanks for your interest in contributing to our effort to help Yuma-area students discover software!

Derek Konofalski

The format for Dev Day Yuma's coding events is modeled on Derek Konofalski's groundbreaking concept of training mentors for coding programs.  Derek, a former corporate trainer at Apple, is largely responsible for developing and managing the City of Gilbert's uber-successful SPARK App League program, which hosts coding events called Game Jams.  SPARK App League's Game Jam coding events feature trained mentors that help students develop software applications and games during the events.  Training mentors on the tools and techniques used during a coding event has proven to be a formula for success; Derek's method helps ensure that the students who participate in a coding event are truly engaged.  Derek also helped Dev Day Yuma develop and execute its training program; Dev Day Yuma's mentors go through a training program similar to Spark App League's.
